What is Go Run?
Go Run is an annual training program started in 2005. Go Run is a weekend long training designed to demystify the political process by teaching women the basic skills involved in running a campaign and being a candidate. Studies show that men are twice as likely to self identify as political leaders and run early - before the age of 35. With the political pipeline 86% male and 81% white, we need to invite women in to gain fresh perspectives and diverse solutions. The training provides the nuts and bolts of running for political office by focusing on the core areas of Communications, Fundraising, and Campaigning and the unique barriers that women face. Go Run is part of the Vote, Run, Lead initiative of The White House Project.
How do I apply?
Applying is easy! Simply answer the online application questions for your state. The application is confidential and secure; your information will only be used to help tailor our trainings to the needs of the participants.
What is the cost of Go Run?
The cost of Go Run is $250. The cost covers all training materials, meals, receptions and activities. Housing will be an additional charge depending on the Go Run training attending.
Can I attend if I do not live in the state?
Yes, you can attend Go Run if you live in a neighboring state. We encourage applicants to attend the closest available training, as each Go Run aims to cover the regional political landscape.
Are scholarships available?
Yes, limited scholarships are available on a need basis. Please refer to the Application. Complete the scholarship for of the application and The White House Project will consider your request.
Is this only for women?
Yes, Vote, Run Lead is committed to increasing the number of women in political leadership. For the past decade, women in the state legislatures have hovered at 22% and women make up only 14% of the United States Congress.
What is the length of the training?
The program length varies by state. It usually begins on the Friday at 5:00pm, lasts all day Saturday and can go through early Sunday afternoon. See your regional agenda for more information.
Will there be childcare at Go Run?
There will not be childcare facilities at Go Run, but stipends are available to cover childcare costs. This information can be found on the Go Run Application.
Is housing included?
No, housing is not included in the training costs. Housing is double occupancy, with single occupancy provided on a need basis. Housing details vary by state. Please see the VoteRunLead.org/GoRun for more information on housing costs for each Go Run.
Is travel included in the cost of Go Run?
No, travel is not included in the cost of the trainings. However, if you are unable to attend the training due to travel costs, you may be eligible for a travel stipend provided by The White House Project. See the Application for details.
Will there be follow-up?
Yes. Go Lead is the follow-up program to Go Run. At the close of Go Run, state directors will share scheduled workshops, continuing education sessions, and skill building seminars with community organizers and additional trainers to further enrich and develop your skills. This information will be available regardless of training attendance.
Will meals be provided?
Yes, all meals are included. If you have any dietary needs please include this in the application.
What is the cancellation policy?
Requests made between 3-10 days before training will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations made 3 days prior to the training will receive a 25% refund.
